We had a WEEK with no children last week and you may ask what we did with that glorious week being kid free. Did we go on a kid free vacation? Stay up late and watch all the R movies we wanted, walk around the house in our underwear?
Nope, we spent it making over both of their rooms. Let me back up a little, I decided to make over their rooms and my husband loving refers to his role as the hired help....... We had around $300 to spend on the makeover, money that I had saved up for a rainy day.
My daughter's room is the smallest room in the house with no storage and a very small closest. She is quick to point that out every time, MORE than anything, she needed shelves for her lovely keepsakes and I thought since she is a tween now that a nice budget friendly update would be a wonderful surprise.
These next three pictures are the BEFORE pictures:

As you can see she loves yellow, and pink and pink pigs...
Look at all that empty wall space!
I let her pick out a new color for her accent wall. She picked Valspar "Reflecting Rose" in semi gloss (Signature color in the blue can) When did paint get so high? $32.98
Getting the room emptied and prepped:
Note the chest of drawers in the corner it took up a lot of space in her room so we switched it with her brother's chest of drawers. Amazing what a can of spray paint and some new knobs will do for a piece of furniture.
First coat of paint is going on the wall.
4 coats later my OCD is finally happy with the nice even color.
Shelves go up next. My husband was going to make the shelves himself but when we priced the materials vs. the premade (solid wood), already painted shelves that Lowe's sells. The cost was better just to buy them already made in a kit that included all the hardware needed. Plus it saved us valuable time not having to make them. SOLD!
Shelves were $18.00 each

The "S" artwork was made by our daughter two years ago.
Here is the completed room!
New mirror with hardware to hang over her closet door: $14.98
We recycled her old mirror into her brother's room.

This is a picture of her desk that I up-cycled for her a few years back:

Awards and treasures hung on the wall.
This is the chest of drawers that was in our son's room. So not girlie in any way or form but you have to look past what is in front of you and visualize the possibility of what it can become. We had no budget for a new chest of drawers for her and we had a perfectly good one that just needed a makeover.
The "new" chest of drawers!
Amazing what paint can do to to change the look of furniture.
It took 6 cans of spray paint, but there are no paint brush streaks, worth it!
The knobs came from Hobby Lobby.
They were 50% off last week, we got so lucky. Seriously NEVER buy anything at regular price at Hobby Lobby that whole store rotates sale prices on everything.
We had gone to Lowe's and priced knobs (I was not at all impressed with their selection of girlie looking knobs) and they ranged in price from $3 to $6. At Hobby Lobby they have a huge selection and the 50% off price made me squeal with delight.

My husband was thinking we would have to spend around $75 to $100 for knobs.
W.H.A.T.??? Not me, I knew I could score some beauties for less.

8 pink knobs and two glorious metal butterfly knobs were $25 total.
Recycle/upcycled lamps:
I really wanted to get new lamps for her because her room is so dark but there was no money in the budget for them so I grabbed my trusty black satin spray paint and headed outside.

The wood base was originally white and I had added white eyelash trim around the bottom edge of the shade (it peeled right off thank goodness), they had been that way since she was a baby.
I bought new Hot Pink trim at Joann's used a 40% off coupon and I had the black ribbon and fabric flower already in my stash. A little hot glue work and she had two new lamps. I also realized she had 40 watt bulbs in them and they could take a 60 watt bulb. Hello solved the low light situation!
The box under her lamp is a box chocolates came in (sadly all the chocolates are gone) and I saved it because it was such a sturdy box.
I mod podged Micheal Miller's Eiffel Tower fabric on to it and added some ribbon. Cost $0.00

All supplies were in my stash.
Pink and White chevron rug was purchased at Lowe's for $29.99. It is 4x6'
They are rolled up in a big box on the rug aisle.
New curtains came from Target:
They are actually fabric shower curtains. I bought them on clearance three years ago after Valentines for 90% off. I paid around $1.50 for each. I just saved them because I knew there would come a day I would update her room. You can't beat $3.00 for two curtain panels. I couldn't even buy the fabric for that.

Reused existing butterfly pull backs.
Two old frames we had, peg board left over from my husband's workshop, pink spray paint from our stash and some chicken wire from Lowe's.
Chicken wire was $12.00 for a roll, which I intend to use to make a few more earring frames to sell and recoup my money.
Metal hooks: $16.00 at Lowe's
Seeing her face was just priceless, she was so excited all she could do was cry. She didn't even want to touch anything because she said her room was so beautiful!
Total out of pocket was $250.00 for the room makeover.
Making a 10 year old girl speechless..............PRICELESS! <3
